Raised by only her grandmother, Azusa had encountered the Amanojaku years ago - a smaller scale incursion had resulted in her sister being killed by Amanojaku, and Azusa left orphaned as a result of a car accident the next year. Growing up with this stigma had driven her to become a troublemaker, with the only people she respected in the world being Grandma Kumon and her best friend Minako. Minako was a pretty important person in Azusa's life. The two briefly dated in high school, and even when both figured it didn't work out, remained close, both acting to hook up the other with male and female students alike. It was Minako who got Azusa into music, and both were even scouted at the same event for different things - Minako was approached by young men from a different high school who became the famous rock band Shinken Rocket, while Azusa was scouted by an eccentric talent scout who thought her delinquent vibe would give her credibility as a center of a very specific kind of idol. She became the center of the newly formed Chili Peppers, but she and Minako remained in touch. Azusa became an odd figure - the management disliked her, but her fanbase was gigantic due to her strange and unique appeal, and her unitmates Aika and Fuuka respected her immensely, as she took them under her wing like a mother hen. However, a big incident would prompt the end of Azusa's career as an idol. Her unit mate Aika was the target of a stalker, who eventually found her address and attempted to stab her with a knife hidden in a bouquet. However, Azusa had been present, buying Aika some groceries. Aika got away with no injuries, while reportedly the stalker, a man by the name of Mitsuru Kitakawa, was beaten hard enough to receive multiple broken bones, including two broken kneecaps, and a badly bruised face. Azusa ended up being let go by her agency as a result of this harming her image as an idol, but her fanbase was large enough that tabloids reported it was seemingly inevitable that Azusa would be signed on to somewhere else. After all, while she hadn't been a pure, innocent idol, she had protected her friend from a murderer - and a lot of her fanbase was into someone rough-and-tumble and had the loyalty of a guard dog. This was eventually the death of Chili Peppers - Aika and Fuuka quit in protest, and the management was unable to replace all three idols. It was during a rage-fueled karaoke session in the aftermath of the controversy with Azusa saving Aika that Minako re-entered Azusa's life and offered her a job with Fire Soul. Minako had been scouting for someone with high Biorhythm levels, and unbeknownst to Azusa, Azusa had proven the perfect candidate for a Mirager - enough Biorhythm to use a Mirage and the fighting spirit needed to fight the Amanojaku. After Azusa was filled in to what she'd actually be doing, she accepted and became Fire Soul's first Mirager, with Minako as her partner. However, an unfortunate accident involving friendly fire caused Minako to retire two years ago, leaving Azusa and some new recruits as the only Miragers - only Minako and Azusa know the truth of that night, and to this day, Azusa has sworn up and down that Minako was not at fault. Still, Azusa continued, becoming one of the Queens of Music by daylight, with album sales and gigs at the Budokan, and one of the strongest Miragers in history by moonlight.
